Originally the HVCC was an upland bird hunting Club only. However, within a few years the Directors decided to make waterfowl hunting available to Club members and it has been doing so ever since.
Our waterfowl farms are located in the farming community of Cedar just twenty minutes south of Nanaimo and in Comox opposite the air base. Each farm is large enough to support a number of well positioned blinds. These blinds are made of wood and comfortably accommodate two hunters, a dog-handler and a dog. Members must book a blind in advance of a hunt.
In Cedar hunting is restricted to Wednesday and Saturday. In Comox hunting is restricted to Tuesday and Saturday. It has been our experience that to shoot more than two days a week drives the ducks away and they won't come back.
For several years the HVCC was not taking new applications for waterfowl hunting but now, with the recent acquisition of additional waterfowl farms, the Club is again in the position to accept applications for new waterfowl members. A membership application form can be printed of the APPLICATION FORM page of this site.
The club has become very active in assisting farmers control populations of Canada geese through out their open seasons. The club has exclusive access contracts with six farms, allowing huntmasters to choose a number of locations based on bird movements. During the season hundreds of hours are spent scouting the farms and organised hunts are made available to our members. Often all guns in the blind get their limit, but of course it's not guaranteed.
Members who would like participate in or more goose hunts register to be on the call list for a small fee. For each hunt they attend members are charged $50. The fees are used to pay for the exclusive access contracts.
